Bespoke Plugin Development
Custom functionality designed for your site — custom post types, admin workflows, shortcodes, and contained features no off-the-shelf plugin handles cleanly.
PHP · Hooks · Custom Post TypesAlterwaves designs and builds custom WordPress plugins for teams that have outgrown off-the-shelf. Bespoke functionality, clean code, and integrations that hold up in production.
We’re a studio for custom WordPress development. When a client needs functionality that no plugin in the directory delivers, we design and build it — clean, documented, and yours.
From single-purpose utilities to platform-scale integrations and ongoing care.
Every plugin is written for your site, your theme, and your data. No bloated settings panels, no features you will never use — only the functionality you asked for, scoped and documented.
We follow the official WordPress PHP and JavaScript coding standards, use hooks and filters the way core intends, and lean on the API instead of touching the database directly. Code that updates cleanly across versions.
Connecting WordPress to payment processors, CRMs, ERPs, and internal APIs. We handle authentication, rate limits, retries, and failure states — so the integration keeps working when the third party has a bad day.
Inputs sanitized, outputs escaped, queries prepared, and nonces in place. We profile what we ship and keep page weight and query counts honest, because a custom plugin should make a site better, not slower.
Custom engineering across the WordPress stack — from a single utility to platform-scale integrations.

WooCommerce · Payments · OrdersInherited or legacy custom plugin misbehaving? We review the code, fix what’s broken, harden the security, and bring it back to a maintainable state.
Audit · Refactor · HardeningOngoing compatibility testing, security monitoring, and a set monthly allotment of development hours from someone who already knows your codebase.
Updates · Monitoring · SupportA clear path with a fixed starting price and an approved spec before any code is written.
We start with a call and a short written brief. We define exactly what the plugin should do, where it touches your site, and what success looks like. You approve the spec and the fixed starting price before any code is written.
We plan the build — data structures, hooks, integration points, and the edge cases that tend to break things later. For larger projects this becomes a short architecture document you can keep.
We write the plugin to WordPress coding standards, with inputs sanitized and outputs escaped from the first commit. You see progress on staging, not just at the end.
We test against your live WordPress and PHP versions, deploy to your environment, and confirm everything works in production. Optional ongoing care keeps it compatible and secure as WordPress evolves.
A sample of the kind of custom plugin work we take on.
A bespoke booking system with real-time availability, deposit handling, and a clean admin calendar — no third-party subscription required.
Two-way sync of inventory, orders, and pricing between WooCommerce and an external ERP, with retry logic and a reconciliation log.
A set of branded, locked-down Gutenberg blocks that let an editorial team build complex layouts without breaking the design system.
Took over an unmaintained membership plugin, patched several security issues, and refactored it for current PHP and WordPress versions.
Project examples are representative of our engagements. Detailed case studies available on request.
Every project is scoped and quoted in writing for your specific needs. Tell us what you want to build and we’ll send a quote.
Every build is delivered documented, GPL-compatible, and yours to keep. Each engagement is scoped and quoted in writing before any work begins, with all amounts in US dollars (USD). Payments are processed securely by Stripe — we never see or store your card details. See our Refund & Delivery policy for full terms.
Alterwaves is a studio for custom WordPress plugin engineering. We build the functionality your site needs when no existing plugin fits — and we write it to be maintained by anyone, including us.
Custom WordPress plugins. That includes bespoke features, custom post types and admin workflows, Gutenberg blocks, shortcodes, third-party and API integrations, and performance or security hardening of existing plugins. We don’t build themes or full sites as a primary service, though we work alongside your existing theme and stack.
A single custom plugin is typically two to four weeks from approved spec to launch. Multi-plugin and integration builds usually run four to eight weeks depending on scope and how responsive third-party APIs are. We confirm a timeline in writing before starting, and the clock begins once you approve the spec.
You do. On final payment, the custom code we write for you is yours to keep, modify, and host without restriction. WordPress plugins inherit the GPL from WordPress itself, so the plugin is delivered under GPL-compatible terms — but there is no lock-in, no license key, and no dependency on us to keep it running.
Each project includes a post-launch window for bug fixes on the delivered scope: 30 days for a single plugin, 45 days for a larger build. For ongoing needs, the Care & Maintenance plan covers compatibility updates, security patching, and a monthly allotment of development hours.
Project work is split into a deposit to begin and the balance on delivery, based on the written quote you approve. Payments are processed securely through Stripe; we never see or store your full card details. The Care & Maintenance plan is billed monthly through Stripe. All amounts are quoted in US dollars (USD), and your card statement will show ALTERWAVES.
Before any project starts, the deposit is fully refundable. Once work begins, the deposit covers the discovery and planning already completed and is non-refundable, but you owe nothing further if you choose not to proceed. The monthly Care plan can be cancelled anytime and stops at the end of the current billing period, with no cancellation fee. If we cannot deliver the agreed scope, we refund the unspent portion. Full details are on our Refund & Delivery policy page.
We build to current WordPress and PHP versions and follow the coding standards that keep plugins forward-compatible. WordPress, PHP, and third-party APIs do change over time, which is why we offer the Care plan: it tests your plugin against new releases and patches anything that needs it before it becomes a problem.
Yes. We take on inherited and legacy custom plugins for fixes, new features, security hardening, and performance work. We start with a short review of the existing code so we can give you an honest assessment before quoting the work.
