Bespoke Plugin Development
The exact feature your site is missing, built to fit how your team actually works — custom post types, admin workflows, shortcodes, and functionality no off-the-shelf plugin handles cleanly.
PHP · Hooks · Custom Post TypesWhen no plugin on the market does what you need, we design and build the one that does — inventory that doesn’t oversell, bookings that don’t drop deposits, integrations that keep running. Clean, documented, and yours to keep.
There are 60,000 plugins in the WordPress directory. You’re here because none of them fit. We scope the exact feature your site is missing, build it to WordPress core standards, and hand over code your next developer will thank us for.
On final payment the code is 100% yours — GPL-clean, no license keys, and nothing that stops your next developer from taking over. No dependency on us to keep it running.
We follow the official WordPress PHP and JavaScript coding standards, use hooks and filters the way core intends, and lean on the API instead of touching the database directly. Code that updates cleanly across versions.
Every build ships with a usage guide and handoff notes, written so any developer can pick it up and maintain it — including one who isn’t us.
Every plugin is hardened against the common WordPress attacks and profiled for speed before launch — so it protects your site instead of becoming a liability, and makes it faster, not slower. (Inputs sanitized, outputs escaped, queries prepared, nonces in place.)
Custom engineering across the WordPress stack — from a single utility to platform-scale integrations.
The exact feature your site is missing, built to fit how your team actually works — custom post types, admin workflows, shortcodes, and functionality no off-the-shelf plugin handles cleanly.
PHP · Hooks · Custom Post TypesConnect WordPress to the tools you already run — payment processors, CRMs, ERPs, internal systems — so data moves automatically, stays in sync, and keeps flowing when a third party has a bad day.
REST · OAuth · WebhooksLet your team build on-brand pages themselves — custom blocks and editor tools that keep your design system intact, so not every layout needs a developer.
React · Block API · ACFAutomate the manual checkout, pricing, and back-office work eating your team’s week — custom checkout logic, shipping and pricing rules, and product types built for your store.
WooCommerce · Payments · OrdersInherited or legacy plugin breaking your site? We review the code, fix what’s broken, close the security holes, and get it stable on current WordPress and PHP — no rebuild required.
Audit · Refactor · HardeningKeep your custom plugins working as WordPress evolves — compatibility testing, security monitoring, and a set monthly block of dev hours from someone who already knows your codebase.
Updates · Monitoring · SupportA clear path: an approved spec and a fixed price in writing before any code is written.
We start with a call and a short written brief. We define exactly what the plugin should do, where it touches your site, and what success looks like. You approve the spec and the fixed price before any code is written.
We plan the build — data structures, hooks, integration points, and the edge cases that tend to break things later. For larger projects this becomes a short architecture document you can keep.
We build to the official WordPress coding standards with security locked in from the first commit — so the plugin is safe, fast, and easy for any developer to maintain later. You watch it come together on staging, never a big reveal at the end.
We test against your live WordPress and PHP versions, deploy to your environment, and confirm everything works in production. Optional ongoing care keeps it compatible and secure as WordPress evolves.
The kinds of problems we get hired to solve.
A bespoke booking system with real-time availability and deposit handling — one admin calendar, no double bookings, no monthly SaaS fee.
Two-way sync of inventory, orders, and pricing between WooCommerce and an external ERP — stock stays accurate, prices stay current, and nobody re-keys orders.
A set of branded, locked-down Gutenberg blocks that let an editorial team ship complex pages themselves — no developer ticket for every layout, no broken design system.
Took over an unmaintained membership plugin, patched its security holes, and made it stable on current PHP and WordPress — no rebuild, no lost members.

Every project is scoped and quoted in writing for your specific needs. Tell us what you want to build and we’ll send a quote.
Every build is delivered documented, GPL-compatible, and fully yours. All amounts are quoted in US dollars (USD) and processed securely by Stripe — we never see or store your card details. See our Refund & Delivery policy for full terms.
Alterwaves is a studio for custom WordPress plugin engineering. We build the functionality your site needs when no existing plugin fits — and we write it to be maintained by anyone, including us.
Custom WordPress plugins. That includes bespoke features, custom post types and admin workflows, Gutenberg blocks, shortcodes, third-party and API integrations, and performance or security hardening of existing plugins. We don’t build themes or full sites as a primary service, though we work alongside your existing theme and stack.
A single custom plugin is typically two to four weeks from approved spec to launch. Multi-plugin and integration builds usually run four to eight weeks depending on scope and how responsive third-party APIs are. We confirm a timeline in writing before starting, and the clock begins once you approve the spec.
You do. On final payment, the custom code we write for you is yours to keep, modify, and host without restriction. WordPress plugins inherit the GPL from WordPress itself, so the plugin is delivered under GPL-compatible terms — but there is no lock-in, no license key, and no dependency on us to keep it running.
Each project includes a post-launch window for bug fixes on the delivered scope: 30 days for a single plugin, 45 days for a larger build. For ongoing needs, the Care & Maintenance plan covers compatibility updates, security patching, and a monthly allotment of development hours.
Project work is split into a deposit to begin and the balance on delivery, based on the written quote you approve. Payments are processed securely through Stripe; we never see or store your full card details. The Care & Maintenance plan is billed monthly through Stripe. All amounts are quoted in US dollars (USD), and your card statement will show ALTERWAVES.
Before any project starts, the deposit is fully refundable. Once work begins, the deposit covers the discovery and planning already completed and is non-refundable, but you owe nothing further if you choose not to proceed. The monthly Care plan can be cancelled anytime and stops at the end of the current billing period, with no cancellation fee. If we cannot deliver the agreed scope, we refund the unspent portion. Full details are on our Refund & Delivery policy page.
We build to current WordPress and PHP versions and follow the coding standards that keep plugins forward-compatible. WordPress, PHP, and third-party APIs do change over time, which is why we offer the Care plan: it tests your plugin against new releases and patches anything that needs it before it becomes a problem.
Yes. We take on inherited and legacy custom plugins for fixes, new features, security hardening, and performance work. We start with a short review of the existing code so we can give you an honest assessment before quoting the work.
